Gozo and Blue Grotto

At the weekend we explored Malta.

On Saturday we decided to visit one of islands, called Gozo.
We used public transport, first bus 222 to port Cirkwea and then we used a ferry to Gozo.

First we visit Victoria, the old city name was "Rabat". City is capital city of island Gozo.

Citadella

The Citadel, or the Citadella, is in the Victoria known as the jewel of Gozo. Like the fortified city of Mdina on Malta, the Citadel of Victoria was created out of the need for protection against invaders.

On the way

Gozo really immersed me because it has a wonderful light, traditional limestone houses with coloured balconies, a very quiet atmosphere, and it is surrounded by stunningly blue sea.

Xlendi

Xlendi is the petite, coastal village of Gozo. Here we made a stop for a very good lunch with fresh seafood.

Dwejra Bay

Dwejra Bay is a protected nature reserve. It was very famous about the Azure Window (before it collapsed in 2017). Dwejra Bay is good for scuba dives, lazy beach days, rock climbing, boat cruises and snorkeling. There you can see really nice limestone cliffs and outstanding views.

Ramla Beach, is one of Malta’s sandy beaches. It is located in Xaghra and is known for its reddish-colored sand. Ramla is an excellent place for swimming, relaxing by the water with a good book or for an afternoon picnic.

On Sunday we went to Blue Grotto and visit Temples.

Blue Grotto in Malta is a number of sea caves on the southern coast of Malta  It is famous for the beautiful sea reflections within the cave area.

HAGAR QIM AND MNAJDRA TEMPLES

It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. These Neolithic temples were built around 3600-3000 BC, which means they are 1000 years older than the Pyramids. The first temple was made of globigerina limestone, which is the 2nd oldest rock on Malta. Mnajdra temples are closer to the sea and is a complex consists of 3 temples, made of coralline limestone, which is harder than the soft limestone of Hagar Qim.

Both trips were really interesting and nice. On both places you explore the area and see and learn many new things.
And lately, if is sunny and hot like it was our day, you can enjoy in the clear and blue sea with your friends.
